Information Age Partnership BERR
How it operates

The Information Age Partnership is a partnership between Government and industry with joint leadership and responsibility for delivery. It is driven by regular dialogue between Government and key sector participants across the IT, Electronics, Communications and Content (ITEC) industries.

The Partnership engages Ministers, Chief Executive Officers, and senior decision makers, across Government, trade associations and other stakeholder organisations as Champions for change driven by ICT. It conducts its business openly, recognising the pre-competitive nature of its work. The Information Age Partnership makes contributions to Government initiatives and policy priorities.

The Partnership works on three distinct levels:

Full Partnership

This is chaired by a Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Minister. The Partnership functions as a forum to allow high-level dialogue and debate between the Chief Executives of the UK's leading Information Age companies, the Minister and senior officials, on Information Age issues. The Full Partnership meets twice a year, generally in May and November.

Executive

The Executive is responsible for delivering the actions arising out of the full partnership, co-ordinating and driving forward the activities of the workstreams, and ensuring effective communication between the Working Groups and Partnership members. The Executive also acts as steering group for the Full Partnership, identifying possible issues and topics for the Partnership to consider, as well as driving actions and measuring progress. The Executive meets approximately every two months. The Chairman usually undertakes the role for around 18 months.

The workstreams

Workstreams are created when the need arises. Typically they have a limited life span with a specific project goal in mind. A Partnership member chairs each workstream (and would also be invited to sit on the Executive, if not already an Executive member). They work to their own schedules, reporting to the Executive.
